What to Do Before, During & After a Spray Tan

If you’ve never had a spray tan before, then don’t worry – with a little prep beforehand and some maintenance afterwards, you’ll get a nice, even spray tan every time. Your tanning consultant will know all of this, so just ask them anytime you’re not sure about something.

Beau Bronzage Facial Serum Barrier Cream

Before

  • If you are taking medication, please inform your tanning consultant before your spray tan
  • If this is your first spray tan, we recommend doing a patch test no less than 24 hours before your treatment
  • Avoid use of any self-tanning products for 1 week prior to your spray tan
  • Wax or shave at least 24 hours prior to your treatment
  • On the day of your treatment, do not wear any make-up, perfume, deodorant, body oils/lotions as these may react with the tanning agents
  • Wear loose dark clothing and sandals or flip flops

During

  • Relax while your tanning consultant carries out the treatment
  • Cardboard pads called ‘Sticky Feet’ will be applied to the soles of your feet to prevent any discolouration
  • Barrier cream will be applied to any dry skin areas, hands, elbows, knees and feet to ensure your spray tan blends naturally
  • Your spray tan will be expertly applied, taking no more than 15 minutes
  • Allow a few minutes after your spray tan has been completed before getting dressed

After

  • Immediately after your spray tan, wear loose dark clothing
  • Do not apply any products over the developing tan (your tanning consultant will tell you how much time is needed for colour development)
  • Avoid any other beauty or hair treatments
  • Avoid any activities that may make you perspire
  • Avoid hot drinks or brushing your teeth as this can cause colour stripping around the mouth
  • Do not shower or get your skin wet
  • After your tan has developed, rinse off the remaining guide colour. Once the water runs clear, gently wash yourself with a mild soap
  • Avoid products containing AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) as they may strip your colour
  • Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs as the water treatments will fade your tan prematurely
  • Use the recommended aftercare products to keep your skin hydrated and your tan long-lasting
